Originally published in 1934, this book was based upon the Alfred Marshall lectures delivered by Copland at the University of Cambridge during October and November 1933. The text offers an account of the Great Depression as it happened in Australia, presenting an outline of the economic crisis and sketching the main lines of policy pursued in reaction to it. A diary of events is also provided, along with statistical tables and charts.
