En 1519 Hernan Cortes llega al Golfo de Mexico despues de haber ejercido la pirateria en el Caribe. Quiere apoderarse de las riquezas y tierras del poderoso rey Motecuhzoma. Ese mismo ano, Carlos i, a punto de convertirse en Carlos v, entra bajo palio a Barcelona. Es la culminacion de su victoria como heredero ante su adversario, su hermano el infante Fernando. Dos monarcas que en continentes diferentes luchan por sus respectivos imperios, aunque ya solo queda sitio para uno. Y en medio de toda esta convulsion, dos hermanos, dos nobles catalanes del linaje de Oris, entretejen sus destinos en direcciones tan opuestas como imprevisibles. Uno de ellos, Guifre, toma partido por Motecuhzoma, tras once anos entre los aztecas.
