It was dark in the bed of the truck. Darrin could tell they had left the main road and on a rough dirt road. With his hands tied it was difficult, but he was able to raise up and see out. The moon provided enough light to show there were no homes, just forest. It was near three in the morning. With his truck pushed into a river, the millions of dollars he was carrying now in their hands he knew they would kill him. This is what they came for. He laid back down and closed his eyes. What have I got myself into? Darrin continued to reflect on what he had done over the last two months to get to this point. The truck came to a stop. Darrin could hear the two men talking. Two doors opened and shut. The truck canopy hatch and tail gate were flung open. He was grabbed by his feet and pulled out. “Please, you have the money, let me go, I promise on my child’s life, I’ll never turn you in.” “Sorry, you have to be gone, just like your truck. Now turn and head to that brush pile, or I’ll shoot you here.” Darrin turned quickly and knocked the man backwards. He ran with all the speed he could muster. Two shots rang out. Darrin fell face down….Oh God, not here, not like this. Please let me die quickly.
