Athough there are several books on stem cell biology, a comprehensive work on engineering of stem cells from the isolation/expansion/engineering procedure to the application and surveillance of survival, homing, function and safety did not exist until the publication of this book. The book reviews therapeutic issues based on stem cells technology concentrating on the application and clinical use of stem cells. It includes aspects of basic and applied stem cells research and history; different sources of adult stem cells including engineering (fibrin microbeads, aptamers, induction of differentiation etc); comparison of difficulties in derivation and application of embryonic and adult stem cells. The focus is on the advantages and problems associated with the interactions of stem cells with various matrices.
