Escape! Led by Olaf Jensson, a remnant of Vinlanders and their allies, the Hilokoa, are forced to leave their homes by an implacable enemy set on destroying them. While other Vinlanders sacrifice their lives to ensure their escape, they set forth on a journey to a destination known only to Olaf. Their goal is a city located on a large river to the west described to Olaf's uncle, Bishop Neil by a strange wanderer. The city's location is unknown. Olaf only knows that it is many days' travel to the west of Vinland. In their journey, they will face dangers from weather, raging rivers, and tribes of Skraelings. Olaf suddenly thrust into his leadership role, must during this journey, not only overcome these dangers, but, also grow as a leader. He is helped by his wife Star Dancer and his blood brother Soaring Eagle.
