The macromolecular biological catalysts which accelerate chemical reactions are known as enzymes. They are an integral part of most of the metabolic processes in cells. They are involved in the conversion of substrates into different molecules known as products. The study of enzymes is known as enzymology. It deals with the study of their kinetics, structure and function. Enzyme kinetics is a sub-field of enzymology which seeks to study the processes through which substrates are bound by enzymes and turned into products.
