By his mother NJAPDOUNKÉ, NJOYA was still descended from NCHARE YEN. This wife of King NSANGOU was indeed the great-granddaughter of King NGOULOURE. NJOYA, still very young, succeeded his father who died in the war against the Bansoh, shortly before 1889. During his minority, his mother "Na" NJAPDOUNKE is the regent, with the help of the great servant GBENTKOM NDOMBOUO.
