During my first long term relationship, I took to the study of love trying to learn everything that would make me successful in my relationship. I surveyed all the leading books on love and was not impressed with what I found. I found texts on 'selfless' love which prescribed sacrificing on the other's behalf in order to have true love. I also found texts on 'pickup' that presuppose that there is no true love and that perpetual dating is the model for the successful male. It was not until I found the book, "How We Fall in Love" by Dr. Paul that I actually felt that I understood true love and the true love process. This book relies on his tri-brain model of love which is consistent with cognitive science.
