The volume includes works which reveal the sources of Mannerist prints in the artifacts of ancient Rome and the innovations of Raphael and Michelangelo; other works help trace the style's spread and transformation from Rome and Florence to the rest of Europe, shifting slightly in Fontainebleu, Antwerp, Haarlem and Prague.
