Allen Carr trabajaba como asesor financiero hasta que en 1983, tras innumerables intentos fallidos de dejarlo, pasó de fumar entre sesenta y cien cigarrillos al día a ninguno. Se dio cuenta de que había descubierto lo que el mundo esperaba: la forma más fácil de dejar de fumar. A partir de entonces decidió que ayudaría a los fumadores de todo el mundo para que hicieran lo mismo que él.
