Cornelia Funke (Dorsten, Alemania, 1958) estudió pedagogía e ilustración. Pronto empezó a trabajar como ilustradora de libros infantiles y a escribir para un público joven. Ha escrito más de cuarenta libros que han sido traducidos a más de treinta idiomas y varios guiones de televisión. Algunos de sus títulos han sido llevados al cine, el más reciente, Corazón de tinta, protagonizado por Brendan Fraser. En 2005 fue elegida por la revista Time como una de las cien personas más influyentes del mundo. Su obra ha sido galardonada con numerosos premios entre los que destacan: BookSense Book of the year Children’s Literature, EEUU(2006); El pizarrín de plata, Premio holandés para literatura infantil (2006); mejor libro del año 2005 en los Disney Adventures Book Awards por Sangre de Tinta, entre otros.
