On August 9, 2014, a little before noon, Michael Brown, an 18 year-old black teen was shot to death in the middle of Canfield Drive in Ferguson, Missouri, by a Ferguson police officer by the name of Darren Wilson. Within minutes of the shooting, residents of the surrounding apartment complexes lined the road, many of them claiming that Michael Brown was killed while kneeling, with his hands raised, and pleading for his life. Others tell a very different story. Regardless, the slogan "hands up, don't shoot" became the rallying cry for hundreds of thousands protesting a perceived injustice. A little more than three months later, a Missouri State Grand Jury found no probable cause for indicting Officer Wilson.
