Martin Gardner (1914–2010) fue un influyente divulgador científico y escritor estadounidense, reconocido por popularizar las matemáticas recreativas y fomentar el pensamiento crítico. Nació en Tulsa, Oklahoma, y se graduó en Filosofía por la Universidad de Chicago. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, sirvió en la Armada de los EE. UU., y tras la guerra, trabajó como escritor independiente y editor.

Su legado más destacado es su columna mensual "Mathematical Games" en Scientific American, que escribió durante 25 años (1956–1981).
