Reseña del libro "The Existential Itch: Religion, Socially Accepted Neurosis and Existential Psychotherapy (en Inglés)"
From the Author: As a Psychotherapist, I decided to write this book because of my growing concern at the number of clients I am seeing who have been adversely affected by religion or religious behaviour. I frequently see clients who can trace the root of their maladjustments and neurosis to religion, a religious upbringing or some abusive event justified by religious edicts or religious people. I have heard tales of controlling behaviour and abuse, often systematic abuse dressed as a religious necessity.Frequently, these effects have been brought about by people for whom religious behaviour has become a mask for abuse. Yet what is most clear from all these conversations is the way contact with self is subverted, not just for the client, but for all concerned. For a long time, I have been seeing how religious behaviours interfere with contact, reducing man's ability to be, the removal of agency and sublimating of will. Much of the rules for suppressing our desires, needs and feelings come from our society and frequently, religious sources. Challenging them is not simple for the therapist or client, therefore, I intend to explore options and unpack some of my ideas in this book in the hope that others will find my professional insights useful.
