Antonio Damasio (Lisboa, 1944) es profesor de neurociencia, psicología y filosofía, y dirige el Instituto del Cerebro y la Creatividad en la Universidad de Southern California (Los Ángeles). Formado como neurólogo y neurocientífico, ha hecho aportaciones fundamentales sobre los procesos cerebrales y su relación con las emociones, los sentimientos y la conciencia, y es considerado uno de los psicólogos más eminentes de nuestra época. Es doctor Honoris Causa por varias universidades de primer nivel y miembro de algunas de las academias científicas más prestigiosas del mundo. También ha recibido numerosos premios, entre ellos el Príncipe de Asturias de Ciencia y Tecnología en 2005 y el del Mayor Investigador Reconocido del Instituto de la Información Científica.
