An early adopter of computers, Dr. Joe Parker explores AOL chat rooms, where all content downloads directly to subscribers' computers. During one online session, Parker stumbles across a chat room dedicated to child pornography. Based on a true story of injustice and wrongful imprisonment, The Miscarriage of Justice by The FBI of Dr. Joe Parker is a sobering description of how assumptions, FBI ineptitude, and judicial self-interest devastated one man's life. Sickened by his discovery, the ex-marine contacts the FBI, inadvertently triggering what is to become a legal and personal nightmare. Advised by the FBI not to delete the images from his computer, Joe waits for the law to take action. It does-against him. Agents from the US Customs Department seize Parker's computer. When Parker explains he'd contacted the FBI, the bureau denies ever hearing from him. What follows is a tragic miscarriage of justice, as an overeager prosecution charges the likable young doctor with multiple counts of possessing and trafficking in child pornography. Parker is advised to make a plea bargain. If he accepts, he'll minimize jail time, but will live knowing he pleaded guilty to a crime he never committed. If he doesn't, he can expect no mercy from the zealous, publicity-minded prosecutors.
