Delia Owens (Americus, Georgia, Estados Unidos, 1949) se formó como zoóloga y etóloga. Creció en Thomasville y se licenció en Zoología en la Universidad de Georgia. En 1974, con su entonces marido, Mark Owens, se trasladó a África para trabajar primero en Botswana (Reserva de Kalahari central, y a partir de esos estudios consigue un doctorado en Etología en la Universidad de California) y luego en Zambia. Tras pasar veintitrés años en África, se trasladó a un rancho de Idaho, en el noroeste de los Estados Unidos. Después de haber escrito varios ensayos científicos (Cry of the Kalahari, The Eye of the Elephant, Secrets of the Savanna), se propuso escribir una novela. Así nació La chica salvaje, publicada en Estados Unidos en agosto de 2018. A sus setenta años, ha sido un debut en narrativa de récord: ha pasado varios meses en primera posición de la lista de libros más vendidos del New York Times, ha vendido más de tres millones de ejemplares y se ha traducido a más de 40 idiomas.
