English summary: With his "Grammatik und Chrestomathie des Sabaischen (SILO 4,1 und 4,2)" (Sabaean grammar and chrestomathy), Peter Stein has published a study of this ancient South Arabian language that does not only present the latest grammatical research, but is also intended to support practical language acquisition with the help of carefully selected Sabaean writings. The grammar makes accessible the essential aspects of the language as far as they are recorded in still available sources. The entire corpus of published Sabaean texts including informal inscriptions on wooden cylinders forms the basis for this study. The book is divided into 14 lessons containing a systematic description of Sabaean writing, phonology, morphology and syntax. It also covers historical linguistic and dialectic developments as well as formal aspects of the written recordings. Various quotes from the different text genres are provided as examples, and practical exercises complement each lesson. Due to the addition of detailed directories and an extensive comments section including further discussion and bibliographic references, the book can also be considered as a reference grammar of the Sabaean language. German description: Mit Grammatik und Chrestomathie des Sabaischen (SILO 4,1 und 4,2) legt Peter Stein ein Lehrwerk dieser altsudarabischen Sprache vor, das nicht nur die Grammatik auf dem neuesten Forschungsstand prasentiert, sondern mit einer sorgfaltigen Auswahl sabaischer Inschriften zugleich der praktischen Vertiefung des Sprachstudiums dient. Die Grammatik erschliesst alle wesentlichen Aspekte der Sprache, soweit sie in den schriftlichen Quellen uberliefert sind. Grundlage bildet das gesamte Corpus veroffentlichter sabaischer Texte einschliesslich des Alltagsschrifttums auf Holzstabchen. In 14 Lektionen bietet das Buch eine systematische Beschreibung der sabaischen Schrift-, Laut-, Formen- und Satzlehre und schliesst auch sprachgeschichtliche und dialektale Entwicklungen sowie formale Aspekte der schriftlichen Uberlieferung mit ein. Die Darstellung wird durch zahlreiche Beispielzitate aus den verschiedenen Textgattungen illustriert, jede Lektion wird durch einen Ubungsteil erganzt.
