God put Abraham to a test and told him to offer his son Isaac on the altar as a burnt offering, and Abraham obeyed! Now believers are told, "Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham" (Galatians 3:7). So, Abraham is our "father" and our pattern.
