Reseña del libro "Earthquake-Caused Soil Liquefaction (en Inglés)"

The book "Earthquake-caused soil liquefaction" is a comprehensive guide that focuses on the Liquefaction effects on Soil Properties due to Earthquake. Liquefaction is one of the devastating and complex phenomenons in geotechnical earthquake engineering. Liquefaction induced failure has been and continues to be the major cause of destruction during earthquakes is the occurrence of liquefaction. The financial losses due to direct and indirect costs related with ground failure may be very large as compared to the damages caused by other type of failures such as structural collapses. The liquefaction of loose, saturated sands has been studied extensively and currently is relatively well understood. Under cyclic loading, such as an earthquake, the soil particles have a tendency to rearrange and densify. With the densification of the particles, the mineral solids transfer the shear stress developed by the earthquake forces to the incompressible pore water in-between in the pore-voids. Due to incompressibility of pore water and transfer of earthquake stress, there is tendency to increase in pressure of the pore water. With increase in pore water pressure, effective confining pressure decreases, leading to a significant loss of shear strength. It is resulted in loosing contact between the soil particles. This phenomenon causes significant damage to the structures above that rely on soil for support. In this book author explains in details about major reasons for damages and life loss during the earthquakes is liquefaction of soils. Overall, this book is an essential resource for students, researchers, and professionals in the field of soil engineering and disaster management.
