Many attempts had been made in the past to enhance pupils’ performance and to bring about school improvement, but all too often schemes to achieve this had disappointing results. First published in 1987, Evaluating Educational Innovation argues that the process of innovation is the key neglected area; that insufficient attention to this in the past was a major cause of failure; and that more attention needs to be paid in the future. It argues that much more needs to be done to assist teachers in changing their classroom practice.

The book reports on extensive original research into the question of how teachers might be assisted to innovate at the classroom level. It outlines in detail numerous techniques on how teachers should be encouraged to handle change, putting forward numerous suggestions for practice.
