Frank Carver has been a member of the Norfolk County Police department for eight years and as this book starts he is the only homicide detective. Since his promotion to that position he has been involved in some unusual cases, many of them with international implications.This book contains four short stories and a novella. In the first story, The Time Traveler, a man comes into the police station to report a murder that hasn't happened yet, and he wants the police to stop it before it occurs. He tells Frank that he sees images of the past and the future. During their conversation Frank discovers the man knows things about past cases that were never public knowledge, and convinces him to consider the possibility he is telling the truth.
