Emilio Gentile es un historiador italiano, considerado una de las principales autoridades en el estudio del fascismo, los totalitarismos y la religión política en la Europa contemporánea. Profesor emérito de la Universidad La Sapienza de Roma, ha dedicado gran parte de su carrera a investigar el origen, desarrollo e impacto del fascismo italiano desde una perspectiva histórica y comparada. Sus trabajos han influido de manera decisiva en el debate académico internacional sobre los movimientos políticos del siglo XX y la construcción de los regímenes autoritarios.

Entre sus obras más influyentes figuran El culto del Littorio. La sacralización de la política en la Italia fascista, Fascismo. Historia e interpretación, ¿Quién es fascista? y La vía italiana al totalitarismo.
