The Olmec culture - known as the mother of Mesoamerican cultures - was born about four thousand years ago, in the period called Preclassic. Its material vestiges have allowed anthropologists, archaeologists and historians to understand the development, boom and decadence of this Mesoamerican culture. Through the analysis of two of the most important Olmec capitals: San Lorenzo (cradle of the Olmec civilization) and La Venta (which is the second Olmec capital), Ann Cyphers contributes profoundly to the knowledge of this important culture. The author postulates that the moments of boom and decay that existed in the Olmec capitals show us that the period of decline of San Lorenzo coincided with the period of boom of the Sale; meaning that the boom of the second capital could schism the permanence of the first.
