Liam Marlowe, a video game developer, never expected to go to the Moon.

But when NASA discovers a pod-like device with a dead computer near Moonbase-1, they attempt to enlist him because of his unique digital acuity. He declines initially, but they lure him with an irresistible offer-an internship at Moonbase-1 for his girlfriend, Mikala Kelley, an RN trained in space medicine.
