West Wareham is one of those picturesque small towns seen on postcards. In the distance are beautiful hills standing guard over clear lakes where you can dip your feet on a hot summer day. Surrounding the town are farms both large and small, their fields changing from brown to green and back again with the change of seasons. James Stuart is the newly hired farm hand on one of these farms, and he is uneasy. He knows nothing about farming, and the last ten years of his life did nothing to prepare him for what he is now trying to learn. It was only a few weeks ago he was living on the streets of New York City, getting by doing odd jobs, sleeping in shelters, and eating at soup kitchens. When a prominent businesswoman is found dead, Jim becomes a suspect not only for the State Troopers but also for the people of West Wareham. Jim hoped he could make a new start in life by coming to West Wareham, but for his new life to begin, he has to solve the murder of a woman he had never met.
