In her quest to make a name for herself in the fashion world, Mikako enters Yazawa Arts Academy, a prestigious art school, alongside her strictly platonic childhood friend Tsutomu. Ai Yazawa, nacida en 1967 en Osaka, Japón, es una destacada mangaka reconocida por sus obras dirigidas al público femenino, especialmente en los géneros shōjo y josei. A los 17 años, comenzó su carrera publicando en la revista Ribon, y su formación en diseño de moda se refleja en sus historias, donde la moda y las relaciones interpersonales son temas centrales.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran "No soy un ángel" (1991-1995), "Historia de un vecindario" (1995-1998), "Paradise Kiss" (1999-2003) y "NANA" (2000-2009), todas en el género shōjo o josei.
