This edition brings together two central works of Chestertonian apologetics: Orthodoxy (1908) and The Everlasting Man (1925). The first book narrates, in the first person, the way of conviction - "how one mind got its orthodoxy"; the second grounds it historically, looking at man from outside as a unique creature and at Christ from outside as a unique fact of history.

Each chapter opens with an evocative illustration in the style of early twentieth-century English art. At the close of each chapter there is a conceptual map. At the end of both works there are annotated indexes of persons and places cited.

The critical apparatus includes Thomistic concordances, cross-references to the Father Brown stories, and rich intellectual context (Darwin, Nietzsche, Newman, Tolkien, Dante, Guardini, and others).
