This book explores the photophysical, electronic, and sensing properties of the sulfa drugs Sulfadiazine (SDZ), Sulfamerazine (SMR), and Sulfamethazine (SMT) through combined experimental and theoretical investigations. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations revealed their electronic structures, HOMO-LUMO energy gaps, and nonlinear optical (NLO) potential. Solvatochromic studies demonstrated significant solvent-dependent absorption and fluorescence shifts, highlighting their suitability as solvent polarity sensors. Preferential solvation analyses indicated strong interactions with polar solvent systems, particularly THF-water mixtures, enabling efficient moisture detection in organic media. pH-responsive spectral variations facilitated the development of molecular logic gates exhibiting IMPLICATION and Improved-INHIBIT functions, demonstrating potential applications in molecular computing and bio-information processing. The interactions of these drugs with halide ions and nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) revealed both dynamic and static fluorescence quenching mechanisms.
