The decrease in the effectiveness of a drug, while treating a disease, is termed as drug resistance. The resistance to antibiotics is generally observed in cases where the medication focuses a specific bacteria molecule. The specificity of the drug can result in it becoming ineffective if there is any mutation in the molecule of the bacteria. This issue is compounded if the antibiotics are used indiscriminately in livestock. The antibiotics in livestock can result in super-resistant bacteria. The resistance to antibiotics by the bacteria can be either through the bacteria altering the targeted enzyme or using the enzyme to neutralize the antibiotic itself.
