The work is devoted to the study of the features of speech acts of praise and compliments in Russian and English communicative cultures. The pragmatic parameters, structure, and typology of these speech acts are studied, as well as the features of their linguistic design and functioning in intercultural communication. In the course of the study, criteria for classifying compliments are identified, parallels are drawn between the two cultures, and their national specifics and extralinguistic factors influencing the perception and use of compliments are analyzed. The research material consisted of both works of fiction from Russian and English literature and statements from the everyday communication of representatives of both cultures. Special attention is paid to the consideration of the relationship between national character and communicative behavior, revealing the nature of praise and compliments as speech acts aimed at harmonizing communication.
