Once that assignment was completed, he was allowed a furlough to see his high school sweetheart who had been sent to a Japanese-American Internment Camp with her family, only to find she had given her heart to someone else. Heartbroken and weary, Toscanini found himself thrown into a new assignment, to infiltrate the Camp Elliot brig as a prisoner to learn the identity of yet another murderer of Marine recruit inmates.
