Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Edimburgo, 1859 - Crowborough, Reino Unido, 1930) considerado el maestro de la literatura policiaca fue un escritor y médico nacido en Escocia, principalmente conocido por haber creado al famosísimo personaje Sherlock Holmes, el detective más conocido de todos los tiempos, versionado para TV y cine de forma cíclica.

Cursó sus estudios en las universidades de Stonyhurst y Edimburgo, donde se graduó en medicina. Entre 1882 y 1890 trabajó como médico en Southsea, Inglaterra.

Para complementar sus escasos ingresos, escribió una novela de misterio titulada Estudio en escarlata, que se convirtió en la primera de las sesenta y ocho historias protagonizadas por uno de los detectives más célebres de la literatura: Sherlock Holmes.
