My favourite Ayatollah, Ali Khamenei, said on 18 February, it is a "religious duty" for people to vote in Iran's election and strengthen the Republic against the "propaganda" of its enemies. "Participating in elections and voting... is a religious duty, not just a national or revolutionary duty," Mr Khamenei said in a speech. "Elections nullify many of the vicious plots the Americans have in their minds and Zionists have in their hearts against the country," he said, referring to US ally Israel. The author's opinion: This is a counter-productive approach by Mr Khamenei; as the cycle of violence must finally end between Iran and the US. And the solutions can only be found in a political process - meaning through dialogue and peacebuilding; so that peace, prosperity and human rights can be restored in Iran - and that Persia can once again become the Jewel of the Orient, she once was! So on 21 February 2020, citizens should not vote for violence and hostility; but rather for peace, prosperity and reconciliation!
