Reseña del libro "The Packet (en Inglés)"
You are forty-two.You think one thing in your past disqualifies you. Most people who apply to a police academy in their thirties or forties are carrying something: a divorce, a repossession, an old charge, past cannabis use, a debt they are not proud of. They assume it ends the conversation. Usually it does not - but only if it is disclosed properly, and almost nobody explains what properly means. This book is not about the written exam. That shelf is crowded and professionally published, and you should buy one of those books for that. This is about the part that actually eliminates second-career applicants: the personal history statement, the background investigation, the polygraph, the psychological evaluation, and a fitness standard that is a genuinely different problem at forty-two than at twenty-two.Chapter one has you draft the disclosure line for your single worst item, in the form the packet actually asks for - dated, factual, unminimised, with the remediation attached. Most readers are carrying one thing they have been too frightened to write down. Rehearsed and survivable beats hidden. It also covers what nobody tells a late entrant: how to choose an agency rather than take the first one that answers, and how the pension arithmetic really works when you start at forty-four rather than twenty-four.It will not tell you that agencies are desperate and you are certain to be hired. Recruiting is genuinely difficult in many places, but this book cites that research by name and date rather than turning it into a promise, and it is candid that the background packet remains a real gate. An Australian appendix covers the separate local recruitment and entry requirements. The thing you are afraid to write down is the thing they are trained to find.
