The Housman family produced a dynasty of talented writers and artists, and Clemence, whose name has unfairly fallen into obscurity, produced novels that drew praise from the leading luminaries of the literary world.

Drawing on folk-tale imagery, her 1896 short novel The Werewolf is an erotic fantasy and atmospheric tale featuring a female werewolf – perhaps drawing to an extent on Clemence’s ‘other’ life as a women’s suffrage activist.
