Nigel Calder (1931–2014) fue un destacado escritor y divulgador científico británico, reconocido por su habilidad para explicar conceptos científicos complejos de manera accesible para el público general. Nacido en Londres, estudió ciencias naturales en el Sidney Sussex College de Cambridge. Comenzó su carrera como físico en los Mullard Research Laboratories, pero en 1956 se unió al equipo fundador de la revista New Scientist, donde fue editor entre 1962 y 1966. Posteriormente, se dedicó a la escritura y producción de documentales científicos, creando y guionizando 13 series para la BBC y Channel 4, acompañadas de libros que exploraban temas como el universo, la mente humana y la Tierra .

En 1972, recibió el Premio Kalinga de la UNESCO por la popularización de la ciencia. A lo largo de su carrera, escribió o editó al menos 37 libros, entre ellos Einstein’s Universe y The Chilling Stars, este último coescrito con el físico danés Henrik Svensmark, en el que exploraba la influencia de los rayos cósmicos en el clima terrestre . Su enfoque en teorías alternativas sobre el cambio climático generó controversia en la comunidad científica.

Calder falleció el 25 de junio de 2014 en Crawley, West Sussex, dejando un legado significativo en la divulgación científica
