The relationship becomes progressively more abusive, causing flashbacks of her father, White Collar's verbal abuse of her mother. In the end the safety and support of Woman in White's friend ButWhyGirl offers the only safe space she has for reflection and restoration. Why Won't She Leave can be used by organizations, universities and churches as an arts-based advocacy and ally building tool to promote civic dialogue among African American women about intimate partner violence. The reader's theater format engages participants and gives them an opportunity to develop appropriate responses to violence in a safe and welcoming environment.
